For the most part today, I spent my time brainstorming for my role in National Jersey Day. The process was two-fold. First I had to identify any and all "influencers" the Rays might have who could use their popularity and fame to further promote a event like this for our team. I was able to narrow down many members of our local media as well as current and former famous fans.
Then came the real challenging part where we laid down the actual process by which we will activate this promotion, whether in-stadium or on social media. I thought I came up with some really good ideas even if some of them are more or less unrealistic or unaffordable.

As I wandered around the stadium this afternoon, I couldn't help but notice that there was some good old signage being changed. Whether it was a new sign coming up or an existing sign being changed, there was a lot of activity in preparation for Opening Day.
One thing I noticed when I first got to the Trop was the Rays Garden outside parking lot 6 and 7 and subsequently surrounding the stadium. Our Rays Garden features the actual natural beauty of area plants and creatures, but it also has a series of signs/placards with information regarding nature, animals, plants and the water cycle. Very informative. It gives spectators and fans a closer look into what makes up the ecosystem in the land in and around the Trop.
However, these signs or placards had become overwhelmingly unsightly with breaks, cracks, and discoloration. This persisted as I continued my first weeks and months with the team so much so that I wanted to bring it up to our community relations department in hopes of spearheading or moving along some activity on the front, perhaps getting them fixed. Judging by the fact that I haven't heard anyone talk about them in any department in my short time with the team, I thought maybe they had been forgotten about. My thought was to take initiative and offer to try to get something done about them. Almost literally the day or two around which I decided to say something to David in community relations, I saw maintenance associates out starting to actually fix and replace the placards! How wonderful! It was only today, then, that I saw the final results, and they look great.
Pictured are a few examples of our new Rays Garden placards. Enjoy!
